The Maras Salt Mines and the Moray Archaeological Complex are two of the most fascinating places to visit near Cusco, combining history, culture, and breathtaking Andean landscapes.

The Maras Salt Mines are made up of thousands of small salt pools built on the mountainside. These pools are filled with natural saltwater that slowly evaporates under the sun, leaving behind pure salt that is still harvested by local families today. Their white and earthy tones create a unique landscape that is perfect for photos.

Moray is an impressive Inca archaeological site known for its circular agricultural terraces. These terraces are believed to have been used as an experimental farming center, where the Incas studied different temperatures and microclimates to improve crop production.

Oxygen Available On Board: Each vehicle carries oxygen on board for passenger assistance. Although the Sacred Valley is lower than Cusco, some areas such as Chinchero reach around 3,700 meters / 12,139 feet, so we are prepared to help if needed.

Tourist Ticket: Required to visit Moray and Chinchero. The approximate cost is 70 soles per person.
Maras Salt Mines Entrance Fee: The entrance ticket to the Maras Salt Mines costs 15 soles per person.
Lunch: Lunch is not included. An optional lunch stop can be arranged upon request, or you may choose to have lunch after the tour back in Cusco.
Tips for the Staff: Tips are optional, but they are common and highly appreciated in Peru.
Personal Expenses: Any extra purchases, souvenirs, drinks, or personal expenses are not included.

Valid Passport: Do not forget to bring your original passport, as it may be required to enter some archaeological sites.
Small Backpack: Bring a small backpack to carry essentials such as water, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and personal items during the tour.
Sun Hat: A wide-brim hat is recommended to protect your face and neck from the strong Andean sun.
Light Jacket or Rain Poncho: Weather in the Andes can change quickly, especially during the rainy season from November to March, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or rain poncho.
Cash Money: Carry some cash in Peruvian soles for entrance fees, small purchases, snacks, or tips, especially in local markets and rural areas.
Personal Medications: Bring any personal medication you may need, especially if you are under treatment or sensitive to altitude.

¿Does the tour include entrance tickets?

Generally, entrance to Moray is included through the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico del Cusco).

How long does the tour last?

The tour lasts approximately half a day (5 to 6 hours). Morning and afternoon departures are available.

At what altitude are the sites located?

Moray is located at approximately 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) above sea level.
Maras is located at around 3,380 meters (11,089 feet) above sea level.

Is the hike difficult?

No. This is a cultural tour with short and moderate walks within the archaeological sites. It is recommended to be acclimatized to Cusco’s altitude.

Can it be combined with other destinations?

Yes. Many travelers combine Maras and Moray with visits to Chinchero or other Sacred Valley destinations as part of a more complete tour
