Embark on one of the most spectacular trekking adventures in the Peruvian Andes with this 5-day Huayhuash Tour. This route takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Huayhuash Range, considered one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

Along the way, we’ll pass glacial lakes of intense turquoise hues, high-mountain passes, and remote Andean valleys surrounded by snow-capped giants such as Yerupajá, Siula Grande, and Jirishanca. We’ll also have the opportunity to visit high-Andean communities that preserve ancestral traditions and mountain-based lifestyles.

This shorter version of the famous Huayhuash Circuit is ideal for travelers with experience in high-altitude hiking who wish to experience an authentic expedition in less time, while enjoying some of Peru’s most breathtaking natural scenery.

What is the difficulty level of this trek?

The Huayhuash Trek is considered a challenging to strenuous hike. Daily stages involve long ascents and descents across mountainous terrain, as well as significant altitude changes. Campsites are located above 4,000 m (13,120 ft), and mountain passes reach elevations close to 5,000 m (16,400 ft), making a good level of physical fitness essential.

How much luggage do I need to carry during the trek?

During the hike, you will only need to carry a daypack with essential personal items such as water, sunscreen, sunglasses, rain gear, a light jacket, documents, and other frequently used belongings.

The rest of your luggage will be transported by pack horses in a duffel bag provided by the expedition team, allowing you to enjoy the trek more comfortably.

How many kilometers are covered each day?

Daily trekking distances vary according to the itinerary, averaging approximately 13 to 18 kilometers (8–11 miles) per day, depending on trail conditions and the pace of the group.

Is it recommended to take medication for altitude sickness?

The decision to use medication to prevent or alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness should be discussed with your physician. Each person responds differently to high elevations, especially above 4,500 m (14,760 ft).

As a preventive measure, we recommend arriving in Huaraz several days in advance to allow sufficient time for acclimatization before starting the expedition.

Is it safe to travel to Peru?

Yes. Peru is one of South America’s most visited travel destinations and welcomes thousands of travelers each year. As in any country, it is advisable to take normal safety precautions, keep personal belongings secure, and follow the guidance of local authorities and tour guides throughout your trip.

What is the weather like during the trek?

Weather conditions in the Cordillera Huayhuash can vary significantly between day and night.

During sunny hours, temperatures generally range between 20°C and 24°C (68°F–75°F), while nighttime temperatures at campsites can drop below 0°C (32°F).

For this reason, it is essential to bring appropriate clothing for cold weather, rain protection, and layered clothing.

What is the best season for the Huayhuash Trek?

The best time to hike in the Cordillera Huayhuash is from April to October, when dry conditions, clear skies, and excellent visibility provide the best opportunities to enjoy the region’s spectacular snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes.
